Detoxing is a way of getting rid of toxins from your body. One of the Detox targets is eliminating Caffeine, refined sugar, alcohol, nicotine and other toxins from your body.
When you are on detox, one of the common experiences you may have is headaches, other symptoms can vary from rashes, hunger pangs, bloating and weakness of the body. These are temporary positive discomforts that you may feel while on detox. It is one way your body is telling you that detox is working on cleansing and eliminating toxins from your system. These symptoms are called healing reactions or healing crisis.
Detox headaches is often caused by our body’s reaction to the lack of elements that it used to get. These headaches may not be eliminated but it can be managed by the following remedies:
- Warm Shower / Sauna – Warm showers push toxins through your skin. Follow it up with a cold shower to close your pores
- Breathing and Meditation – A long slow breathing and relaxing your body increases the supply of oxygen thus reducing your stress and soothe your headache.
- Hydrate – Headaches can be caused by dehydration. Drink a lot of water to stay hydrated. You may also consider Fresh juices or smoothies and herbal teas that do not contain caffeine such as Ginger, Peppermint, Chamomile and Green tea.
- Rest – Headaches frequently disappear after a nap or sleep. A good massage might also be helpful to reduce discomfort.
On a positive note, many people do not experience or have minimal discomfort while they are on a detox programme.
As mentioned, these are just temporary discomfort. Good health and the healing benefits of detoxification outweighs the unease you have experienced during the programme.
